Data Deletion Instructions

Last updated: 30 July 2026

This page explains how to ask GKnect Digital (“GKnect”, “we”, “us”, “our”) to delete personal information we hold about you, including any data obtained through applications and platform integrations we operate.

It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who this page applies to

You can use this process if you are:

  • A visitor to gknectdigital.co.za, or someone who submitted an enquiry or contact form.
  • A current or former client of GKnect Digital.
  • A user whose Facebook, Instagram, or other platform data has been accessed by an application we operate.
  • An individual whose personal information reached us through a client’s advertising or analytics account that we manage.

The applications we operate on the Meta platform are registered as GKnect Digital Reporting (app ID 1238740428064918). These are used to read advertising, Page, and reporting data for accounts we manage under client authorisation. They are not consumer-facing applications and do not collect data from the general public.

2. How to request deletion

Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line Data Deletion Request.

To help us find and verify your records, include:

  • Your full name.
  • The email address, phone number, or account name your data is associated with.
  • The service, website, or platform the request relates to (for example our website contact form, or a Facebook or Instagram account).
  • Whether you want all of your personal information deleted, or only specific items.

We do not charge a fee to process a deletion request. You do not need to give a reason for the request.

3. What happens next

  • We acknowledge your request within 5 business days.
  • We may ask you for information to confirm your identity. This is to prevent someone else having your data deleted, and we use it only for that verification.
  • We complete the deletion within 30 days of verifying the request, and confirm in writing once it is done.
  • If we cannot delete something, we tell you what it is and the legal reason we have to keep it.

4. What we delete

On a verified request we remove, from our own systems and backups:

  • Enquiry and contact form submissions, and any related correspondence held for marketing purposes.
  • Contact records held in our own records and reporting tools.
  • Any copy we hold of data retrieved from a third-party platform about you, including data accessed through the Meta Marketing API, Google Ads, Google Analytics, LinkedIn, or Microsoft Advertising.
  • Stored access tokens and credentials associated with your authorisation, which we revoke at the platform.

5. What we may be required to keep

Some records cannot be deleted on request because the law requires us to retain them. These include:

  • Invoices, payment records, and accounting documents, which South African tax legislation requires us to retain for five years.
  • Records we need to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim, retained until that matter is resolved.
  • Aggregated or anonymised statistics that can no longer identify you.

Where we retain information on one of these grounds, we hold it only for that purpose and delete it once the obligation ends.

6. Removing our access to your Facebook or Instagram data

If you previously authorised one of our applications on Facebook or Instagram, you can withdraw that access yourself at any time:

  • Facebook: go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites, find the GKnect Digital application in the list, and select Remove.
  • Instagram: go to Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites, then remove the application.

Removing the application stops any further access. It does not, on its own, delete data we already hold. To have that deleted as well, email us using the process in Section 2.

7. If your data was collected by one of our clients

We often process personal information on behalf of a client — for example leads generated by a campaign we manage for them. In those cases the client is the responsible party under POPIA and we act as an operator on their instructions.

If you contact us about data of this kind, we will delete our own copy and forward your request to the client so that they can act on it in their systems. Where we are able to identify the client, we will tell you who they are so that you can approach them directly.

8. Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
